In addition to our house call and other services, including Covid-19 PCR and rapid antigen testing at home or drive-through locations, House Call Doctor Los Angeles is now offering Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson Covid Vaccines.
They are all effective but there are some differences. The CDC recommends anyone 12 and older receive 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Any individual 18 and older also has the option of 2 doses of the Moderna Vaccine or 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Yes. Unvaccinated people who have previously caught Covid-19 are more than twice as likely to catch the virus again compared to fully vaccinated people. While Covid survivors do have some natural protection against the virus, studies show this protection only lasts for a short time.
Yes. The CDC recommends vaccination for anyone over the age of 12, including pregnant women. There is no evidence that any COVID vaccine is harmful to pregnant women or unborn infants.
While full vaccination against Covid-19 is very effective at preventing severe illness and death, rising rates of “breakthrough” cases of mild and moderate illness in fully vaccinated people suggest that protection against the Delta variant may decrease after several months. According to recent CDC and HHS studies, a Covid-19 booster appears to be highly effective at extending and improving protection against all forms of illness caused by any existing variant of Covid-19.
While the information is somewhat confusing for laypeople, boosters are widely recommended for fully vaccinated people eight months following the date of their lost shot. At this time, however, the only available boosters are for individuals who got the Pfizer shots. The situation for people who got Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines remains somewhat fluid as of this writing but their availability is expected soon. Booster availability will follow the same pattern as previous vaccine rollouts, with medical workers, older, and high-risk patients receiving the first booster shots. For details, see the CDC page covering the topic.
